Behind This Smile.
Want to Cut?

The Butterfly Project:

The Rules are:

1. When you feel like you want to cut, take a marker, pen, or sharpies and draw a butterfly on your arm or hand.

2. Name the butterfly after a loved one, or someone that really wants you to get better.

3. You must let the butterfly fade naturally. NO scrubbing it off.

4. If you cut before the butterfly is gone, you’ve killed it. If you dont cut, it lives.

5. If you have more than one butterfly, cutting kills all of them.

6. Another person may draw them on you. These butterflies are extra special. Take good care of them.

7. Even if you don’t cut, feel free to draw a butterfly anyways, to show your support. If you do this, name it after someone you know that cuts or is suffering right now, and tell them. It could help.

The Calendar Project:

This is something back in Nov. of 2010 that I made up myself and helped me to stop cutting.

Rules:

  1. Go out and buy a calendar that you really like, that you love.
  2. Buy stickers to go along with the calendar.
  3. Go home and hang it in your room; I hung mine in the spot where I look when I first open my eyes to remind me.
  4. For every day that you do not cut put a sticker up on that day.
  5. If you cut one day do not put up a sticker just remember that tomorrow is another day; another try.
It`s kind of like a reward system. But it`s better to do it with somebody else.
It doesn`t have to be for cutting either, it can be for smoking or drinking or any other addiction.
I did it with my mom and her addiction. So if you know someone who knows you cut talk to them about doing this with you and their addiction. If you can`t find anyone I would be more than happy to do it with you. <3 So come message me and we can check up on each other every day. (Unanon) Don`t worry this will be private so only I know about it.
Some common tools to help you forget about wanting to cut:
  • Take a hot bath.
  • Pinch yourself.
  • Talk to someone (even me, I`m here but please do it unanon so I can answer privately; again it will be between us only)
  • Write; about what`s bothering you, cutting, or an imaginary land. It doesn`t matter.
  • Read.
  • Listen to heavy music.
  • Dance.
  • Excerise; run up and down stairs, go for a walk or run, maybe even get into some martial arts, try beginner yoga.
  • Punch a pillow.
  • Scream.
  • Cry.
  • Draw.
  • Visit websites that talk about teens and their struggle with cutting. It helps when you read about others and their story because it reminds you that you are not alone.
